By: Phil Schryver Inverness, FL We had another
action packed night of racing here at Citrus County Speedway, including 3
traveling series.
The
first feature event of the night was the 4 Cylinder Stocks. 20 cars started the
race, and t here was a ton of 3-wide and even 4-wide racing throughout the
entire race.
The #69 of Shaun Cater was the
night’s winner, followed by the #4 of Bryson Ward, and the #47 of Richard Kuhn
finished 3rd.
The
Pure Stocks were next to come out. 14 cars were on hand for the feature. The #5
of James Peters took the early lead, while the #24 of Tommy Smith, #39 of Wes
Filyaw, and the #68 of Drew Matissek went 3 wide going into turn 3 to battle for
2nd position.
The #24 of Tommy Smith eventually took the lead away
form Peters, and both cars drove away from the rest of the field.
Third up were the Southeast
Champ Kart Series. They were previously known as the Desoto Champ Kart Series.
They had 18 karts signed in and put on a great show
both in the heat races and the feature event.
Their race director Phil
Harp also told me that at least 4 or 5 of their drivers are heading out this
Thursday for a race in Cannan, NH next Saturday. The racing series from
Canaan
will also be coming down here to race in December.
The #99 of Jo Cordon from Ft Myers was the feature
winner.
The
Street Stocks were next. We again saw lots of 3 wide racing, especially on the
start when the #10 of Kenny May, the #007 of Mark Fallows, and the #42 of Richie
smith went 3 wide into turn 3 for the top position.
Half way through the race, the #42 of Smith seemed
to be on a rail and
was a good 5 seconds ahead
of the rest of the field. The #97 of Timothy Quick finished 2nd, and
Kenny May in the #10 finished 3rd.
The
American Mini Cup series was also back.
They
had a total of 16 cars signed in for the night.
Richard Cline Jr. was the
feature winner in the #37 car, Jacob Callaway was 2nd in the #07, and
John Beach had a great night finishing 3rd.
Our 3rd
traveling series of the night was the Bass Champion Challenge Series. This was a
special night for them as they are sponsoring a 3 day walk to help fight breast
cancer. They raised over $375 from fans and racers and were also donating all of
their night’s winnings to the cause.
The #4 of Jarret Snowden was
the 30 lap feature winner. Coming home second was the #40 of Michael Smith, and
3rd was the #25 of Paul White.
The mini stocks were also on
hand tonight. The #7 of Clint Foley was on fire that night and got the win with
no problem. The #39 of
Jim Curry hit the wall hard on the back stretch, but
luckily was ok.
Last, but not least, was the
V8 Thunder Stocks.
Jason Ayers in the #39 was the big winner of the
night, but he had to fight hard for the lead. Once he had it though, he never
looked back and dominated the race.
Next week, we have TWO full nights of racing.
Friday night and Saturday night. The Friday night races will start at 7:30 pm
and will be only $5 for admission. There will be a $500 to win 50 lap pure stock
race, a flag pole race, kid’s bicycle races and much more.
